What is Suiseki?
Suiseki is the Japanese term for stone objects shaped
by nature. Sui means "water" and seki means
"stone". The true significance of suiseki
as an art form is an endless intellectual experience.
When added to the rhythm of everyday life, leisure
time with suiseki offers both a visual consciousness
and regenerative pause.
Suiseki dates back more than two thousand years in
China, where people placed small stones of exceptional
natural beauty on bases. In the sixth century, these
stones came to Japan by way of Korea. Since then people
have continued to develop the art of display.
